What if we came to the rescue of bats?
This is the ambition of Loïc Duchamp and the regional nature reserve of rocks and peat bogs in the Pays de Bitche.
In this region on the border between Moselle and Bas-Rhin, the curator and his entourage mobilized their energies to successfully propose the idea of creating a network of refuges for bats.
With funding shared half between Europe and funds from German and French partners, nearly thirty places will be developed.
Work aimed at promoting the reception of bats, after signing agreements with the owners of places, individuals or presbyteral councils.
Preserving biodiversity
However, if the animal sometimes has a bad reputation in the collective imagination, "in general, the population has reacted very favorably", rejoices Loïc Duchamp.
“Twenty years ago, she would have been much less enthusiastic.
But everyone has understood that our planet is in such bad shape that we have to make a small effort at all levels to also preserve biodiversity”.

Along with crayfish and butterflies in wet meadows, bats are among the endangered animal species targeted by protective measures.
“The last inventory of sites in 2015 highlighted the significant reduction in sites accessible to bats,” concludes Loïc Duchamp.
We had to react!
