(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 27 - Faced with the challenge of dear-energy, governments that intend to help the weakest part of the population could tax the richest.
The proposal comes from ECB chief economist Philip Lane, who in an interview explains: "the big question is whether a part of this support cannot be financed through tax hikes for the richest", whether they are "hyperceptors of higher incomes or companies that continue to have high profits despite the energy shock ".
A solution that "would be less inflationary than the hypothesis of widening deficits" to finance aid, Lane says.
