An Italian food manufacturer is recalling batches of its sausages.

In Italy, some deaths related to the product are already feared.

Munich – The Italian food manufacturer Aia is recalling its poultry sausages.

According to the product recall, some sausage products are contaminated with Listeria and can cause serious health problems.

After eating affected food, flu-like symptoms could occur in addition to nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Pregnant women, small children and immunocompromised people are particularly at risk.

The harmful Listeria are discovered again and again in meat and poultry products.

Product recall affects popular poultry sausages in Italy

An Italian manufacturer is also recalling batches of contaminated poultry sausages in Germany.

The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety informed about the recall of the company AIA (Agricola Italiana Alimentare SpA).

Voluntarily and in coordination with the German authorities, certain products that were marketed in Germany are being recalled for reasons of preventive consumer protection.

The company explained that only products of the brands and batches mentioned or best before dates (MHD) were affected.:

According to AIA, anyone who heats the poultry sausages completely before consumption, as specified on the product label, can assume that any germs present have been killed.

Large sausage recall: 13 federal states affected

Affected customers can report to the point of sale and get the purchase price refunded, it said.

"We are taking this action for reasons of precautionary consumer protection and because of our understanding of quality," wrote AIA.

"We deeply regret the situation and apologize for the inconvenience.

The products could be bought in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.

Poultry sausage recall: product apparently linked to deaths in Italy

In Italy there have been outbreaks of listeriosis in several regions in recent months.

The Wudy products from manufacturer Aia are among the brands involved.
