Autumn is the perfect time to plant new trees and shrubs in the garden.
An advantage: They take root well before winter.
Autumn is not only a good time of the year for roses or shrubs such as apple or pear trees to bring new plants into the garden.
If you plant hardy shrubs such as forsythia or privet in the ground by December, you will already have strong, partly flowering trees in the spring.
In order for them to grow well, there are a few things to consider.

One of the many advantages of planting shrubs in autumn is that you can use the residual heat in the soil and the plants have enough time to take root before the cold snap.
Anyone who waits loses this advantage.
In autumn you can find numerous shrubs on the market, which are reduced in price at the end of the season.
Another good reason to buy them now.
As Angela Römer-Zeibig from the Bund deutscher Baumschulen (BdB) e.
V. of the magazine
GartenFlora
also explains that the shrubs should then be planted in the ground as quickly as possible, as they have freshly shortened roots.
Until the ground is frozen, the following shrubs are well suited for autumn planting:
forsythia
Evergreen conifers
rhododendron
weigela
liguster
holly
Hedge shrubs such as hornbeam, red beech or copper beech

Planting shrubs: Thorough watering is very important
According to the Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR)
, before planting the shrubs,
the soil should be loosened as deeply as possible and any weeds that are present should be removed.
A loose soil makes rooting easier and reduces waterlogging.
After inserting the plant, add some bark humus, compost and horn shavings to provide the plants with nutrients.

Even if the weather is usually damp in autumn, according to Angela Römer-Zeibig, you should definitely make sure you water the plants correctly when planting them: "It is particularly important to water the freshly planted trees and shrubs thoroughly in order to close cavities in the soil.
The so-called ground contact is a prerequisite for the early formation of new roots.”
