The Schwarz Group buys a pasta factory in Erfurt and thus increasingly relies on its own brands.
The new production facility will supply pasta to the customers of the group, which includes Lidl and Kaufland.
Neckarsulm/Heilbronn district - The Schwarz Group, which owns the Lidl and Kaufland retail chains
,
is Europe's largest food retailer.
The group has long been grazing in new segments and industries.
As the portal
Watson.de
reports, a German paper factory, a nut factory and container ships were recently bought in April.
Now there is a pasta factory from Erfurt.
This would make the Lidl mother one of the largest pasta producers in Germany, according to the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
in its report.
Thanks to the production capacity of more than 100,000 tons per year, the company will not only be able to supply itself in the future, but also cover about one eighth of the German market.
In the future, the capacity in Erfurt should help to reliably supply the trading companies of the Schwarz Group with high-quality pasta, a company manager emphasized to the industry newspaper.

Schwarz Group expects supply bottlenecks in the future
But that's not all.
"It is possible that we will make further acquisitions in order to ensure security of supply," announces Jörg Aldenkott in the
Handelsblatt
.
He is head of Schwarz production, which produces private label products such as baked goods and chocolate for Lidl and Kaufland.
"We have to be prepared for the fact that there can always be bottlenecks." That's why the family business is clearly expanding its production and is focusing on expansion.
Wherever there is a risk of supply bottlenecks, we have to consider whether we can step in ourselves.

"And then we also have to look at which new business areas we have to deal with." This also explains the expansion abroad.
The group is now building a beverage manufacturer in Great Britain, reports the Handelsblatt.
Schwarz Group is expanding: Aldi, Rewe and Co. far away
The direct competition is apparently still a long way from such expansion plans.
Aldi Süd only operates two coffee roasters, the discounter gets the rest of its goods from other manufacturers.
According to the Handelsblatt
, Aldi Nord has no production of its own at all
.
Rewe has at least one large bakery and, with Wilhelm Brandenburg, a butcher's shop that supplies Rewe and Penny branches with meat and sausages.
