Stuttgart - Just in time for the beginning of winter, many households turn on the heating again - and notice it right away in their wallets.

Heating accounts for more than 60 percent of energy consumption in German households.
Anyone who heats sensibly in winter can therefore save a lot of money.
In an average apartment with an area of 120 square meters, heating costs can be reduced by up to 330 euros per year without any loss of comfort.
"A room temperature of 20 degrees Celsius in the living area (position 3 on the thermostat) and 16 to 18 degrees (position 2 on the thermostat) in the other rooms is almost always sufficient," recommends Petra Hegen from the Baden-Württemberg state program for the future of old buildings, an initiative of the Environment Ministry in Baden-Württemberg.
At night: shutters and blinds down!
When it's dark, lower the shutters or blinds and draw the curtains!
This keeps the heat in the rooms longer.
A night reduction to 15 degrees is recommended an hour before going to bed.
This saves around 25 percent in costs at night.
In the morning, however, the heating system should wake up an hour before the residents so that it is already warm in the bathroom.
If the constant turning of the thermostat is too time-consuming, you should think about an electric thermostatic valve.
This little helper can be used to set how high the temperature should be in which room and at what time.
Proper ventilation is also part of saving energy.
But be careful: Tilting the windows is not efficient, but it is expensive.
The air exchange in the apartment lasts an hour or longer, during this time the outside is heated and the walls cool down.
This can mean additional costs of up to 200 euros per heating period.
"It's better to open the window briefly and completely," explains Dieter Bindel from the Baden-Württemberg State Association of Building Energy Consultants, Engineers, Craftsmen (GIH).
"If they are open on opposite sides of the apartment, a draft can also form." The entire air exchange in the apartment then only takes around five minutes.
How much electricity costs: The heating check can
If you have heating costs that are too high despite the tips, we recommend a heating check, says Petra Hegen from Zukunft Altbau.
During the check, which consumer centers or plumbing specialists offer for around 30 euros, the operation is optimized and it is checked whether a new heating system is necessary.
The measures include checking or replacing the heating pump, hydraulic balancing of the system and optimization of the heating control.
These inexpensive measures save ten to 15 percent of the heating costs.
They usually work themselves out after a year or two, after which you save a lot of money.
The German Tenants' Association, for example, offers a free online heating cost check.

Heat down in bedroom
Heating costs can be saved particularly in the bedroom, which anyway requires an optimal temperature of only 16 degrees.
A particularly good price-performance ratio for a duvet that really warms 365 days a year is offered by the 4 seasons duvet.
For bargain hunters, the 4 seasons duvet AERO from Third of Life can be ordered for just €149.95.
