"Gangsta's Paradise": US rapper Coolio is dead

With the award-winning single »Gangsta's Paradise«, Coolio became a star in the mid-90s. More albums followed – and appearances on reality shows. Now the rapper died at the age of 59.

US rapper Coolio is dead. He died in Los Angeles at the age of 59, according to his longtime manager Jarez Posey.

His manager, Susan Heber, also reported the news.

Information on the cause of death is not yet available.

Coolio's real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr. He became a star in the mid-1990s: in 1995 he released the single "Gangsta's Paradise", it was the soundtrack to the high school drama "Dangerous Minds" with Michelle Pfeiffer.

Coolio conquered the charts and was awarded a Grammy for the song.
