It is now commonplace on social networks for people to state their preferred pronouns.

Is this trend now spreading to product descriptions in supermarkets?

Stuttgart - On social media profiles, it has been observed for some time that people state their pronouns.

Depending on which gender a person identifies with, it says she/her, he/him or they/them.

This should make it clear quickly how the person would like to be addressed and whether he feels like a man, woman or non-binary.

Is this trend now spreading to supermarkets?

While shopping, a customer discovered a sign on a rice pudding that at first glance suggests exactly that.

Rice pudding with pronouns in the supermarket: Twitter user posts photo with ironic comment

In an ironic echo of people who demonize the use of pronouns, the Twitter user writes:

While some comment on the post with salmon smiles, others don't seem to understand directly that this is a joke.

"Aren't you embarrassed?" Writes a user.

“He/Him/Van = strawberry/raspberry/vanilla.” She puts the hashtag #genderpanik behind it.

The author of the tweet then only replies: "Aren't you embarrassed that you don't check the joke?"

The tweet had an enormous reach within a very short time: more than 8,800 users gave it a like and more than 670 retweeted it (as of September 28, 4:45 p.m.).

A similar tweet recently triggered a discussion: In view of the advertised “chicken fillets” on an Edeka sign, users wondered whether Edeka was now gender.
