Virgin Atlantic has announced that its employees will be able to choose what to wear, according to their chosen gender identity.

Flying on it:

The British airline Virgin Atlantic announced yesterday (Wednesday) a series of revolutionary moves, headed by the decision to allow crew members to dress according to the identity they choose, and not according to the codes accepted by the company today.

What it means?

Flight attendants will be able to wear a skirt, and the flight attendants will be able to choose the pants suit that was reserved for men until now.

The move comes as part of the gender identity reform led by the company.

"From now on, employees will be able to wear the uniforms that represent them in the way that feels most right and comfortable to them," it was stated in an official announcement.

The company's uniform was designed by British designer Vivienne Westwood, and includes a red skirt and heels for women, and a burgundy pantsuit with a gray jacket, red tie and black shoes for men.

The move is of course aimed at all employees - pilots, flight attendants and crew members.

"This is a move designed to reflect the diversity of the company's employees and strengthen its branding as an inclusive and welcoming company," the company's statement reads.

In addition to choosing the uniform, the employees and passengers will be able to wear different identification badges that will allow them to express their true identity.

The airline's fashionable and cultural move follows the Be Yourself policy introduced by the company, during which the strict rules regarding make-up and visible tattoos on the part of the company's employees, which previously had to be completely covered and hidden, were softened.

In addition, during the booking of the flights, the company's customers will be able to choose between several gender options including a gender neutral category.

"It's important that we allow people to embrace their individuality, and be their 'true self' within their work," said Joha Gerbinen, the company's Chief Commercial Officer.

"This is why we want to allow our people to wear the uniforms that suit them best, and to ensure that our customers refer to them using their preferred nicknames."

Will more companies adopt the move?
