From Samsung and Intel the prototype of a "rollable" laptop

(ANSA) - MILAN - During the launch of the thirteenth generation Intel Core processors, also known as Raptor Lake, Samsung and Intel have unveiled a laptop with a rollable display, capable of going from 13 to 17 inches.

According to the Korean, this is a demonstration of what is possible with oled display technology built on a flexible plastic substrate.

By sliding the panel off the edge of the prototype, you go from the size of a tablet like the iPad Pro to a small monitor.

"We are announcing the world's first 17-inch sliding display for PCs," JS Choi, the chief executive officer of Samsung Display, told the audience at the Intel Innovation 2022 conference.

 "This device will meet several needs due to its portability."

Although it is a product not for sale, the CEO therefore spoke about the real needs of users, hinting that the prototype could soon become reality.

Samsung Display has been working on sliding oled screens for a few years now.

The company showed a lab version last year.

Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, called the laptop a "slidable PC" without providing technical details on the on-board equipment.

The notebook, with touch technology, does not provide for the presence of a keyboard, although it is not excluded that it may include a retractable one in the back, if it is marketed.

Recently, Lenovo unveiled its ThinkPad X1 Fold equipped with a foldable panel while Taiwanese Asus,

during the German technology fair Ifa 2022, it announced the ZenBook 17 Fold Oled.
