A wild violin party under the tent roof: Classical star David Garrett rocked Munich's Olympiahalle on Thursday evening.

Read our review here.

A muffled bass rumbles from the speakers, the guitarist intones the intro of Metallica's "Enter Sandman", and a tall, blond man appears in the middle of the crowded arena of the Olympic Hall.

However, it is not the sandman who enters, but classical star David Garrett with the violin at the ready and a smile on his face.

David Garret in the Olympic Hall: classic and cracker

The 42-year-old fiddles his way through recent music history with his experienced band on the "Alive" tour.

He makes the 5,000 or so visitors dizzy with Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal", runs casually fiddling through the audience during "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees and invites a couple from Freising to Lady Gaga's "Shallow" for a small private concert Stage.

Of course, the heartthrob can also do classical music: His version of the "Dance of the Knights" from Sergei Prokofiev's "Romeo and Juliet" is rocking, the "Confutatis" from Mozart's Requiem is opulent and powerful.

Between the individual pieces, he tells charming anecdotes from his life as an artist.

How he and his mother supposedly drunk themselves with champagne on a trip to Africa, only to finally realize that the champagne was non-alcoholic.

Or how he came to arrange a complete song alone with a loop machine, like Ed Sheeran.

To present the result, a snappy version of Pharrell Williams' already cheerful "Happy", to great acclaim.

The spectrum is wide, and the mixture of classics, classics and current hits is well received in the Olympiahalle.

Grandiose violin party: David Garret inspires around 5000 spectators

There is no question that David Garrett is a virtuoso on his instrument.

His grandiose violin party delighted the audience on Thursday evening.

In Munich, he impressively demonstrated that he is also a very entertaining and personable host.
