Hurricane Ian weakens, is now Category 2

Over 1.8 million people without electricity in Florida, state of emergency in Virginia, Georgia and South Carolina (ANSA)


Hurricane Ian in Florida is losing strength and

has now dropped to category 2 out of 5

, with winds at 168km per hour.

It is currently located about 130km southeast of Orlando.

Meanwhile, the number of people without electricity has risen to

over 1.8 million

.

CNN reports it.

American TVs broadcast apocalyptic images: houses destroyed or damaged, trees uprooted, cars submerged by floods, with the sea level rising up to 4 meters.

Some areas are still too dangerous to organize rescue operations.

Ian landed in Cayo Costa, near Fort Meyers.

Orlando is also on his way.

The governors of Virginia, Georgia and South Carolina have declared

a state of emergency

in view of the passage of Hurricane Ian.
