Netflix takes drastic action against account sharing

Many will share a Netflix account with family members or friends, but it's illegal.
Netflix is taking drastic measures in selected countries.
Munich – Netflix has long had a problem with one account being used by several households.
Because that's not allowed under the Netflix policy.
Still, many customers share their passwords, so one account is used in different places.
The streaming service is testing different measures to detect account sharing.
In some countries, Netflix is getting serious and taking action against subscription sharing.
Netflix takes action against account sharing – additional fees are introduced
After a long test phase, Netflix is taking action in Argentina, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and the Dominican Republic.
Because there the Netflix accounts of the customers are linked to a television or a TV-connected device, as reported by the

If a streaming user is away from home, they can also use the Netflix subscription outside of the registered household for a fee.

Netflix can recognize the use of an account outside of the registered TV device.
If you are somewhere else and open the Netflix profile, a window will open automatically asking you to pay the fee.
The streaming provider is also accommodating and allows external use of the account for a period of up to two weeks.
However, this possibility is subject to one condition – the location must be new.
If the Netflix account has been used at the same place within a year, you have to pay the fee.
Netflix customers can choose between three subscription options
Basic subscription:
For 7.99 euros per month, customers can use the cheapest Netflix offer.
The account can only be used on one device at a time - HD and Ultra HD resolution must be avoided.
Standard subscription:
With the medium subscription from Netflix, customers pay 12.99 euros per month and can watch films and series on two devices at the same time.
The subscription includes HD resolution, but not Ultra HD resolution.
Premium subscription:
The most expensive Netflix package costs 17.99 euros per month.
Customers can use Netflix on up to four devices at the same time.
The streaming service offers films and series in an Ultra HD resolution.

Netflix account sharing: Subscriptions can be shared for a fee
The fee allows the account holder to add up to two additional people outside of their own household to the subscription.
The people get separate access to Netflix.
The additional costs vary between two and three euros in the South American countries.
Stopping account sharing has financial benefits for Netflix.
With additional regulations, more people are encouraged to create their own account and pay the full subscription price.
In order to make more money, Netflix even plans to introduce advertising.
