The Hollywood actor Richard Gere will star in an American remake of the Israeli film "Longing" by Shavi Gavizon, who will also direct the new version, it was reported this evening (Thursday) on the American entertainment website "Deadline".
In a statement Gabizon gave to "Deadline", he said: "I look forward to working with Richard. The participation of such a great and special actor in my film is a dream come true for me."
The film is currently being shot in Ontario, Canada.
This will not be the first time that the 73-year-old Geer will star in an Israeli-directed film, after in 2017 he starred in the lead role in "Norman: The Moderate Rise and Steep Fall of an American Maker" by Israeli director-screenwriter Yosef Sider.

The original "Longing", which was released in 2017, received good reviews upon its release, and won the best screenplay and audience choice awards at the Jerusalem Festival of that year.
It was also screened at the Venice Film Festival and even won the screenplay award as part of the "Days of Venice" sideshow, and also won the best screenplay award at the Ophir Awards, for which it was nominated in 11 other categories, including best film and best director.
The film follows an industrialist in his 50s (Shai Avivi), a bachelor with no children, who discovers to his surprise that his partner from his university days gave birth to a son he never knew existed.
