The info not to miss

Russia wants to expand further.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has planned to endorse the annexation of four Ukrainian regions in the middle of the day, threatening to use nuclear weapons in the face of invective from kyiv and its Western allies.

The regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, Zaporijjia and Kherson will be officially annexed after “referendums” organized at the end of September on their attachment to the country.

Consultations carried out under the supervision of armed men, described as "parodies" and "simulacra" by kyiv and its Western supporters.

Russia already annexed Crimea, a peninsula in southern Ukraine, in 2014.

At 2 p.m. (French time), the Kremlin will host a ceremony during which Vladimir Putin must deliver "a voluminous speech", according to his spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

As a prelude to this formalization, the Head of State has also signed several decrees recognizing the independence of the Ukrainian regions of Zaporijjia and Kherson.

Moscow has prepared for festivities, with traffic restricted on Friday, including a concert in the shadow of the Kremlin walls at which the Russian president could make an appearance.

Internationally, several Western countries have already shown their opposition to these annexations.

US President Joe Biden has vowed to "never, ever, ever" acknowledge the results of the "Russian-orchestrated" referendums in Ukraine.

For UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, such behavior has "no place in the modern world".

What else to remember

  • Bercy goes up the straps of energy suppliers.

Economy Minister Bruno Le Maire is asking energy suppliers to make additional efforts to guarantee “reasonable prices”.

“I think that today (energy suppliers) do not sufficiently play the game with their customers, especially SMEs,” he said this morning on Europe 1, directly citing TotalEnergies, Engie and EDF.

  • Inflation slows in September.

Inflation slowed to 5.6% over one year, according to figures published by INSEE.

A decline due to the “slowdown” in the rise in energy and services prices.

After August, this is the second slowdown in consumer price inflation in France year-on-year since July 2021, when inflation was limited to 1.2%.

  • Covid-19: an eighth wave is approaching.

“The 8th wave is very real.

We must start wearing masks again in public transport, and in all populated places, ”recommended the president of the Committee for monitoring and anticipating health risks, Brigitte Autran.

"This new wave does not worry us," she said, however.

The remaining 30% (and any excess fees) will be borne by the patient, or his mutual.
