Bodeta was founded in 1892 in Ochersleben with the company name "Becker & Schmidt".

In GDR times, the company belonged to the VEB confectionery combine based in Halle and was taken over in 1992 by the Swiss company Idawisa-Holding.

The company is one of the largest confectionery manufacturers in Saxony-Anhalt.

The manufacturer is best known for its various sweets.

Apart from that, the range also includes Easter specialties and dragées.

The red raspberry sweets are considered a classic among East German sweets.

Probably the best-known variety is the eucalyptus sweets "Euka Menthol" in the green packaging.

Lucas Flüther, provisional administrator, told the

Mitteldeutsche Zeitung

: "The company can no longer cope with the rising energy and raw material costs".

In addition to the increased energy costs, the price of sugar alone has doubled.

The price of glucose has even tripled.

The costs for packaging materials have also risen sharply.

Another cost item for the manufacturer is the new minimum wage that the company will have to pay to its more than 100 employees from October.

The raspberry sweets were classics in the GDR.

A spokesman says that the management has already taken steps to finance the next salaries of the employees.

It is said that all employees have been notified and that the next salaries are secured by the Federal Employment Agency.

According to Bodeta, it is one of the largest employers in its region.
