(ANSA) - MILAN, SEPTEMBER 30 - Prometeia has revised its forecasts on Italy's GDP, reducing Italy's growth rates in 2023 from 1.9% to 0.1%. "Gas and inflation cut almost two points of GDP Italian ", says the research and consulting institute, which also revises the estimates on the Eurozone (from + 1.6% to -0.1%), now expected in recession, and on the world economy (from + 2.6% at + 1.6%).
On the other hand, growth rates have been revised upwards in 2022: those of Italy from + 2.9% to + 3.4%, those of the eurozone from + 2.6% to + 3.1% and global ones from + 2.1% to + 2.3%.
"The Prometeia scenario is affected by a reduction in gas and electricity consumption by households of around 7% by 2023, both because the increase in their price discourages their use and to comply with the savings rules provided for by the government plan" , reads the forecast report in September.
"Households that do not have additional spending margins will in any case have to reduce that for consumption, and this, associated with uncertain economic prospects and rising production costs, will slow down business investments.
Inflation and reduction in consumption - explains the report - therefore lead to review the estimated growth of GDP for next year in a clear way ".
