The audio streaming service Spotify has been relying more and more on remote work for the past year.
An interim conclusion has now been drawn – with the result: Remote is being expanded.
Music whenever, wherever you want.
Thanks to audio streaming providers such as Spotify, users can access a wide range of audio services.
But how does this “whenever” and above all “wherever” work for Spotify employees?
In February 2021, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek launched the “Work from anywhere” initiative.
Below you can read an interim conclusion.
Spotify has been working increasingly decentralized since February 2021.

Spotify: Decentralized work is encouraged
With the introduction of the "Work from anywhere" initiative, some things have changed fundamentally.
Around 6 percent of employees have changed their place of residence, for example.
This is particularly evident in the USA, where some employees have moved to other countries.
They were able to keep their job thanks to the changed company policy.
At the same time, there are more employees in Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.

Other benefits that come with decentralized working that the company has been able to achieve:
The churn rate fell by 15 percent.
Increase in diversity: 18 percent (2019: 12.5 percent)
More women in management positions: 42 percent (2019: 25 percent)
Faster application process
We believe we are happier and more productive when we have the freedom to choose where we work.
This helps us to give better channels of communication and to work together.
It means we can work with the best people for the job, no matter what city or country they're from.

How sustainable is the “work from anywhere” strategy
Valid results cannot yet be given.
For example, it is not yet entirely foreseeable what the increased remote working will do to the productivity of the employees.
However, further research will be done on this.
Long-term results are to be published in 2024.
