In an emergency, the corresponding emergency call must be made immediately.

But when is which number the right one?

An overview.

A fire in a residential building, a passer-by being unconscious or a traffic accident: in some situations it is not enough for a private person to provide help.

The professionals have to go.

In Germany, these include the police, fire brigade and rescue services.

These can be reached under the so-called emergency numbers.

It is advisable to save these on the one hand under the contacts on the smartphone or on the telephone.

The numbers can also help to save lives in the form of a note in the hallway and in the car.

Accidents that require immediate help from the police and an ambulance can happen not only on the road.

Call the police, fire brigade or paramedic - with the following numbers

  • Police: 110

  • Ambulance and fire service: 112

  • Medical on-call service: 116117

According to the Malteser Hilfsdienst, 112 is reserved for acute, possibly even life-threatening emergencies.

These include signs of a heart attack (severe chest pain, shortness of breath, cold sweat), signs of a stroke (visual and speech disorders, signs of paralysis), accidents with serious injuries and high blood loss, but also fainting, severe pain, allergic shock, severe burns or shortness of breath.

In urgent but not life-threatening cases, 116117 is dialed - the nationwide number for the medical on-call service.

The employee on the phone refers callers to on-call practices.

If you cannot leave the house due to severe symptoms such as a severe migraine or a bad gastrointestinal infection, the medical on-call service will also come to the patient's home.
