Former US President Jimmy Carter is celebrating his 98th birthday this Saturday.
According to grandson Jason Carter, the party is simply canceled.
His grandfather especially looks forward to watching his favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves, play on TV at home in the small town of Plains, Georgia.
Jason Carter said of his grandfather: "He's still 100 percent committed, even though things are a lot harder now, but I guarantee one thing: he'll be watching all the Braves games this weekend. «
Four years in office
Carter is the oldest surviving former President of the United States.
He was in office from 1977 to 1981.
After four years in office, he lost the election to Ronald Reagan.
After that, Carter campaigned worldwide for democracy, human rights and peaceful conflict resolution.
For this he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002.
In the Habitat for Humanity project, even in old age, he was still very actively involved in building houses for the needy.
In recent years he has struggled with health problems.
However, Carter overcame a cancer diagnosis in 2015 and a serious fall at his home in 2019.
In July 2021, Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary.
The incumbent US President Joe Biden also came to visit.
