Pesticides are intended to protect plants from harmful organisms or diseases.
However, in excessive amounts they are harmful to health.
Kaufland therefore started a product recall.
Lipno - Frozen fruits are useful in many ways: they are suitable for making ice cream yourself and they last longer than fresh fruit.
However, even frozen fruit and vegetables are not spared from pesticides.
Kaufland has now started a recall because excessive amounts of pesticides were found in a product: customers should therefore not eat the frozen sour cherries.
Kaufland own brand recalled: excessive amounts of pesticides in sour cherries
The product "K-Classic freshly harvested sour cherries deep-frozen" in the 750g pack was removed from the refrigerated shelves due to excessive amounts of pesticides.
Articles with the best before date 11/2024 and the batch numbers LP2145DL7 and LP2145AL7 are affected, as the manufacturer Greenyard Frozen Poland informed in a message.
Accordingly, increased levels of the pesticides dimethoate and omethoate were detected in the cherries.
"Kaufland reacted immediately and took the affected product out of sale," the manufacturer continues.
The consumption of cherries is strongly discouraged.
Recall at Kaufland: cherries can produce pesticide poisoning
As the Heinrich Böll Foundation informs, pesticides have serious health consequences.
Consuming too large amounts can produce acute pesticide poisoning.
The symptoms range from flu symptoms to gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Severe courses can even affect the nerves and organs.
