Countless people have been affected by Hurricane Ian.

But animals are also exposed to the storm.

A video that goes around the world shows how much.

Strong winds, heavy rain, storm surges and flooding: Hurricane Ian brings all of this to the west coast of Florida.

“Ian” hit Fort Myers particularly badly.

Torrential floods are coursing through the streets and a cat is sitting in the middle.

Frightened, she perseveres on a hill next to a house.

A man sees her, recognizes her plight and saves her life.

Michael carefully rescues the cat from the storm surge from Hurricane Ian.

Megan Cruz Scavo captures the heartbreaking rescue in a video.

Because it is her friend Michael who rescues the cat from her plight.

She posted the video on Twitter, where just a few hours later it was viewed more than 2.5 million times.

The scene goes around the world and melts the hearts of animal lovers.

In the video, her boyfriend Michael can be seen trudging through the torrential waters rushing through a residential area.

Neither the high tide nor the big storm that can be clearly heard in the video can stop him.

Finally, just a few meters in front of him, he sees a cat that has escaped onto an air conditioner.

Completely helpless, the house cat is exposed to the storm.

Michael recognizes the emergency and starts what is supposed to be the most touching rescue operation of the year.

He climbs onto a fence by the air conditioner and approaches the little cat carefully and with particular sensitivity.

Although the velvet paw is frightened, her rescuer picks her up and hugs her in such a sensitive way that she quickly seems to trust him.

With the cat in his arms, Michael makes his way back through the water.

Once on the safe side, there is a heartfelt look at the camera before Megan Cruz Scavo ends the recording.

She has to be proud of her boyfriend Michael, even if the comments already say: "I'm sorry Megan, but he's everyone's friend now."

Among other comments, Megan explains that this is Michael's parents' house, but that the cat is a stranger to them.

They both suspect she's a stray.

At Michael's parents' house, the cat is now being cared for and given food and water.
