Hong Kong will hand out half a million airline tickets to attract tourists back to it as the government lifts all remaining restrictions on visitors entering the country, according to Bloomberg, which pulled the news from local Chinese-language media outlet Sing Tao.
The head of the executive authority of Hong Kong, John Lee, may announce the plan for a return to normalcy in his policy speech to be held in October, unless the situation of the corona virus in the country worsens significantly, according to the report on the website.
The distribution of tickets, purchased by the government in 2020 to attract travelers, is one of the measures aimed at increasing tourism, it said.
The government in Hong Kong has estimated that it will take a quarter to two months for tourists to return, even after it cancels the rest of the corona restrictions that apply to tourists, including three days of movement restrictions, according to Sing Tao.
Will the tourists return (and for free)?

Hong Kong is expected to lift remaining restrictions on incoming tourists, who are barred from going to bars or eating in restaurants for three days after their arrival and must be checked daily for a week, after the recent lifting of the mandatory hotel lockdown.
The city's strict corona laws kept it isolated for most of the pandemic, tarnishing its status as a global financial center and hurting its economy.
It is not yet clear how the flight tickets will be distributed, but it should be noted that Cathay Pacific, the Hong Kong airline, has been flying to Israel for some time, and El Al also announced last month that it will renew the direct route to the country from February 4, 2023 and will operate three weekly flights
