The Canadian was born with a sense of being at home in the film world, after all he is the son of Oscar-nominated filmmaker John N. Smith and documentary filmmaker, Oscar winner and member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts Cynthia Scott.
However, Dylan Smith himself only switched to acting after suffering an injury while trying to start a professional career as a hockey player.
