On the same day, her birthday, she discovers that she has cancer and is pregnant.

Elisabetta Socci, from Ravenna, manages to give birth to her child but, despite the surgery and the therapies followed, she died on July 31st, a few months after giving birth.

She killed that cancer that she had been diagnosed with just a year and five months before her.

Today her husband, Matteo Grotti, 35, originally from Cesenate, wants to be an example for those who find themselves in similar situations, with a message of strength and hope.

The two met in 2015 at a wedding.

She is an architect in Cervia, he is a warehouseman in Cesena.

Love takes place, in 2018 they get married and go to live in San Zaccaria, in the Ravenna area.

For two years they try to have a baby.

In 2021, on her birthday, the woman discovers that she has a lump in her breast: a malignant tumor.

"The world has fallen on us", Matteo tells RavennaToday.

At the hospital she told her to take a pregnancy test too to make sure she was not pregnant.

The same day she takes the test which is positive.

"She looked at me and started to cry. It took me a while to understand, I had just learned about cancer," she continues.

    Elizabeth is immediately operated on.

"She was convinced that pregnancy was the light in this period of darkness and, despite everything, she has chosen to carry it out and to cure herself", explains her husband.

Shortly after her, another lump appears, and so, in the third month of pregnancy, she begins chemotherapy.

"She did it with crazy willpower, she has never been bad," says her husband.

At eight months Elizabeth gave birth and at nine of her they performed a total mastectomy, but her tumor had moved to the liver.

"We have always lived in hope, because we can hope and continue to live even if the ending is bad - Matteo says - And she did so, always enjoying the present".

However, the therapies could not save the woman.

Now the father is raising the little one by himself.

"At 35 you should never see your wife die, raise a daughter alone."

"We are always convinced that we have it in hand, that we can manage it as we please, but no one really knows how much time he has left, and I have understood it at my expense", is her message.

Matteo wants to be of help to others.

"You can live happy even in sickness, trying to forget it every now and then, to feel good and do normal things," he says.
