MDA published the recommendations for proper preparation for fasting and dealing with emergencies • How will you deal with dehydration? How to call for quick help? • And this is how you will keep your child safe on the roads

Yom Kippur will enter tomorrow (Tuesday) in the evening, and many throughout the country will fast for 25 hours.

Among the fasts are adults, young people and the elderly.

How to deal with dehydration?

What should be done to ensure the safety of an elderly person or a woman undergoing fertility treatments?

And what is the right thing to eat before and at the end of the fast?

Interrupting meal:

1. In order to make the fast easier, especially for teenagers, who are fasting for the first time, it is necessary to drink a lot before starting the fast.

You should drink at least two liters of water until the start of the fast, and reduce the consumption of caffeinated beverages (coffee, cocoa, cola, tea, etc.).

Also, it is recommended to avoid drinking sweet drinks, which increase the feeling of thirst.

2. Avoid particularly salty foods, such as pickles and crackers, which cause fluid absorption and thirst.

3. In the menu of the intermittent meal, it is recommended to combine foods from all food groups: complex carbohydrates with proteins, fats and vegetables, which is important for creating a feeling of satiety for a long time.

In the event of a medical emergency in the synagogue: the

"My MDA" applet, which can be downloaded for free on any smart phone, including kosher smart devices, allows the worshiping public to dial MDA's 101 emergency hotline with the push of a button.

Upon receiving the call at the call center, the medics and paramedics immediately knew the exact location of the caller, which would help the MDA teams quickly arrive at the scene.

Patients, elderly and pregnant women:

MDA recommends that patients, elderly and pregnant women consult a doctor before fasting, with an emphasis on patients suffering from kidney failure, heart disease, arteriosclerosis, oncology patients, and kidney, heart or liver transplant recipients. This, due to the concern that the symptoms of the disease will worsen due to the cessation of taking the medication. This directive is also addressed to those suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, epilepsy, overactivity or lack of thyroid gland and kidney and liver diseases.

Impairment of kidney functions:

due to avoiding drinking during the fast, kidney stones may form in our bodies.

This is a problem that appears, among other things, during fasting.

The first signs of damage to the body's systems due to lack of fluids are headaches, blurred vision, and in a more severe stage, difficulties urinating and damage to the other body systems.

In order to reduce the risks of damage to kidney functions, fasting is recommended to stay in shaded and air-conditioned places.

Road safety:

Thousands of children and teenagers ride bicycles, electric scooters and rollerblades during Yom Kippur on city and intercity roads.

At Magan David Adom, parents are asked to check the condition of the bicycles, with an emphasis on the tires and brakes, to make sure that the children ride with helmets and shields, as well as to pay increased attention to passers-by.

In any case of injury, the MDA teams must be quickly called on the emergency phone number 101 or through the "My MDA" application, which will locate the location of the incident automatically, and listen to the instructions of the medics and paramedics at the call center, until the MDA teams arrive at the scene.

keep the children on the roads,

Dehydration:

Avoiding drinking and food can cause dehydration.

Pay particular attention to babies, children and the elderly.

In any case where general weakness is felt and signs of dehydration appear (weakness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting), the MDA teams must be quickly called on the emergency phone number 101 or through the "My MDA" application, and obey the instructions of the medics and paramedics at the call center, until the MDA teams arrive to the place

Women undergoing fertility treatments:

During Yom Kippur, MDA paramedics will inject drugs to women undergoing fertility treatments. Women who are in the process of fertility treatments and need a series of hormonal injections, and according to the recommendation of the attending physician must have an appointment on the dates and times set in advance, may, if necessary, call the MDA by phone 101 in order to coordinate in advance their arrival at the MDA station closest to them.

When arriving at the MDA stations for the purpose of performing the injections, you must bring the material for injection as well as the attending physician's reference with the date and time of the injection, dosage, location and method of injection (intramuscular or subcutaneous). The MDA paramedics will inject the drugs exclusively to patients who have already received at least one injection before of the same drug.

Breaking the fast:

It is recommended to break the fast with a glass of drink accompanied by a slice of cake or two slices of bread with spread.

After about an hour you can eat a light meal.

The MDA appeals to the worshiping public who come to the synagogues with children and toddlers, to pay special attention and watch over them during the prayer. Every year the MDA is called upon to take care of children and toddlers who are injured in the vicinity of the synagogue while playing in places where there is danger, and which are not intended for children and toddlers to play.
