The reality of translation in Syria and the requirements of the labor market, the most prominent of what was discussed by the participants in the dialogue symposium organized today by the Higher Institute of Translation and Interpretation on the occasion of the International Day of Translation at the Reda Saeed Conference Center at the University of Damascus.

Dr. Fouad Al-Khoury, Dean of the Higher Institute of Translation and Interpretation, indicated in his speech during the opening of the symposium that about 1,700 translators in all specializations have graduated from the Institute to date, and they are working in the field of translation of all kinds in Syria, the Arab world and at the international level, and courses have recently been reactivated. Short-term training for the public and private sectors to qualify translators in the field of conference translation, sworn translation, audio-visual translation, and others, within the framework of professional work practice and in coordination with the Department of Academic Excellence at the University of Damascus.

Dr. Maysa Al-Seyoufi, Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Affairs, pointed out the importance of translation science in communication and the transfer of knowledge and cultures between nations, peoples, and civilizations, noting the efforts made by the Higher Institute of Translation and Interpretation, which fall within the context of the efforts of Damascus University to link the outputs of higher education and scientific research. the needs of society and the labor market.

During his presentation on the reality of translation in Syria, researcher Hossam El-Din Khaddour suggested a set of recommendations, most notably opening new colleges to teach languages ​​whose peoples play an active role at the international level, and studying the possibility of establishing an association for Syrian translators working in all fields of translation, interpretation, and sworn staff, as translators in Public and private institutions and companies

Encouraging translation of national periodicals concerned with translation, classifying translators in the editorial field, according to experience and production, and classifying tariffs according to the type of work and the language from which they are translated.

Professor Fouad Fund, a teacher at the Institute, gave a presentation on the academic qualification of the translator to enter the labor market, pointing to the need for qualified translators who convey to us the masterpieces of their literature and culture written by others, and the results of their sciences and achievements, and in return they convey to the world the work of the elite of our writers and scholars Intellectual, literary and scientific, and most importantly, they help convey our message to the world, and contribute to the defense of our just causes.

The interventions of the participants in the symposium, which was titled “Translation Profession .. Damascus University in Community Service”, focused on the need to develop study plans, the weaknesses and strengths of translation graduates, the difficulties, solutions and experiences required, to facilitate the translator’s entry into the labor market and the need to expand training courses, And workshops to include all branches of translation.
