Yom Kippur: a special forgiveness playlist of the best singers Israel today

2022-10-03T09:20:00.193Z

Although Judaism has organized a concentrated forgiveness for us on the tenth day of the month of Tishrei, each and every one of us has his and her own way of forgiving, or asking for forgiveness.

Forgiveness - Yasmin Moalem

Almost like in the story of "Aladdin", also here in the song "Forgiveness", Princess Yasmin Moalem opens her safe of memories, which was locked for years and releases into the air all the demons she imprisoned there.

In her magic staff, fear, sadness and lies dissolve into one big forgiveness that Oalem asks of herself.

How much courage, honesty and inner strength this action requires and in combination with Moalem's voice, talent and production, the song released last year broke the mold on the right beat, captured the hearts of its audience, and also on several radio stations, becoming another Israeli indie-pop anthem.

Dear melody - Avitar Banai

Like Moalem, Avitar Banai also dared to dance for himself somewhere in 1997 with the song "Precious Melody" from his first album named after his name, it was a dizzying commercial success and became an Israeli classic.

Banai's self-forgiveness stems from a lack of choice;

He knows that his precious melody will arrive nice and clean, only when he comes to it clean and dressed.

Forgiveness is involved in this refinement, and without it the work will never be complete.

And perhaps this is also the most challenging forgiveness: "I have no choice but to do this / I have no choice I'm sorry for me / I have no choice it's always me in front of me / I have no choice but to be with me".

I forgive - Josie Katz

Among Josie Katz's hit collection "Hatshema Koli" released in 2000 and marking her return to Israel and her comeback, the song "I forgive" stands out, written and composed by Gilad Segev and arranged by Hami Rodner.

Katz approaches the song with her cracked voice and delivers it with the complacency that only the burden of the past years can give her.

She forgives the tears and lost days and remembers the sunrise moments that were and are gone.

The iconic couplet "Hear my voice" by the poet Rachel, planted in the lyrics of the song, dedicates it as a song of forgiveness to the late Shmulik Kraus and the complicated relationship they had.

Sorry - Gabriel Belhasan

In the song "Forgiveness" Gabriel Belhassan does not forgive;

Not to the injustices of the world, not to the country, not to the cruelty of people and not to God.

One of the sensitive and pained creators that Israeli rock knew, and who is no longer there, shoots in an unfiltered and not easy to digest text everything that causes his soul to die;

From shells that land far away, through the television that rapes the viewers to pedophilia, betrayal and twelve amputees.

After all the pain and evil, frustration and exhaustion are folded into twisted guitars and terrifying drums, the revelation comes: Belhasan is waiting for the wind to come and take pity on him.

In the last verse of the poem, Belhasan paints the dream and its brokenness - he does not forgive himself either - when he closes the poem with the words: "Where is this and where am I".

Forgiveness and I - Efrat Gush

Efrat Gush asks for forgiveness in the mournful farewell song "The Forgiveness and I" until her beauty fades with the object of the forgiveness, the beloved of her heart who has left her.

Gush at that time was almost forgotten, so in 2007 she broke up with her lover loudly and was left with the guilt, with the forgiveness, with herself, with pieces of her heart in her hands.

Sometimes a broken heart is not a whole heart and has no salve even with forgiveness.

Millions of dollars - Amir Lev

"Millions of Dollars" from Amir Lev's latest album, "Rome", is an entire song of forgiveness for that novel, the boy, Lev's former student, after whom the album is named.

Roman passed away prematurely from an overdose, and the pain burned Lev's heart when he found out about his death from a Facebook post.

Lev apologizes to him on behalf of the country that does not see children as Roman and does not provide them with a protective shell against such bitter endings.

He also apologizes for not answering the phone, for writing songs, for being busy himself.

"There's nowhere to move forward if you're forgotten," Lev sings to the novel against the background of an almost reggae-like mandolin melody, tearing the listener's heart apart.

The Lord of Forgiveness - Hanan ben Ari and Izzy

"The Lord of Forgiveness" is the oldest and best-known verse of forgiveness in Jewish culture, which has received countless cover versions.

One of them is by Hanan ben Ari and Izzy, who gave the tune a Mediterranean interpretation with their own words updated for 2015. A song of praise to God, an expression of regret, repentance and asking for forgiveness and strength that tests hearts and forgives wrongdoing.

From the forgiveness of Ben Ari and Izzy, the redemption is also revealed - through the happy rhythm and uplifting melody of the song - which lies in the request for mercy.
