Burger King announced a vegan revolution in the summer - and now has to face a serious setback.

After undercover research, some fast food products lose their "V-Label".

Munich – The range of meatless alternatives is growing and growing.

In most supermarkets and discounters in Germany, customers now have the opportunity to choose from a wide variety of vegetarian options.

Burger King advance: Germany-wide "plant-based revolution"

The fast-food giant Burger King also wanted to keep up with the times and announced a "plant-based revolution" in the summer of 2022.

The announced “revolutionary” change: a meatless alternative should be offered for every beef burger.

The "plant-based" burgers should be offered at the same price as their respective variants with meat, promised Burger King.

The non-governmental organization ProVeg Germany has licensed some of the fast-food chain's products with the "V-Label" seal of quality.

The animal welfare organization PETA also honored the meatless chicken burger with the Vegan Food Award 2022.

The Wiesn also wanted to be vegetarian-friendly this year: Oktoberfest visitors could buy a vegan white sausage in some of the festival tents.

The product was not well received by everyone, and Bavaria's Minister of Agriculture Michalea Kaniber (CSU) was also not very convinced.

"Restaurants temporarily closed": Burger King reacts to abuses

However, undercover research by the

RTL

program “Team Wallraff” put an abrupt end to the company's advance.

In September, the journalists infiltrated five Burger King branches unnoticed.

The program that has now been published shows that some of the dishes advertised as vegan are actually not vegan at all.

Nationwide warning day: All mobile phones will soon ring at the same time

At the German headquarters in Hanover, the company announced: "Burger King takes the allegations made very seriously, has temporarily closed the restaurants shown in the article and checked them carefully." At the same time, they promised improvement: "In September we also had an extraordinary external review of all 750 Burger King restaurants in Germany performed.

Where we have identified issues where we need to improve.”

According to undercover research: Five products lose V-Label

Due to the uncovered grievances, Burger King also "suspended the V-Label licensing for five vegan products." The label usually confirms that the product itself is vegan and that it has not come into contact with any animal product on its way to the customer.

The aim is now to “optimize the preparation processes and intensify employee training for everything to do with vegan and vegetarian options,” as the company announced on its website.

Instead of the vegan options, Burger King will in future have parcel stations.

At least a small consolation for some fast-food lovers.
