Ikea wants to become more sustainable and climate-positive.
Together with recup, the company now offers reusable products against a deposit.
Munich - In cooperation with
reCup GmbH
, Ikea Germany now offers a sustainable reusable system in all 54 branches.
When buying a drink to take away, the customer pays a deposit of one euro, for food it is five euros.
The cups and bowls can then be returned to around 13,000 participating companies in Germany, including numerous cafés, restaurants, bakeries and petrol stations.
In addition, the furniture store giant set up deposit machines for reusable items in its branches.

In a test phase, Ikea tested the Recup system for several months.
The pilot project was carried out in furniture stores in Cologne-Godorf, Düsseldorf and Ulm.
An Ikea spokeswoman said that "together with customers and employees, we were able to save 18,000 disposable beverage cups in this period alone".
The company continues: "That's a remarkable number and we look forward to multiplying it in the future and thus saving even more food waste and single-use waste."

By 2030: Ikea wants to become “circular and climate-positive”.
The German company
recup
is also looking forward to the cooperation: “In Ikea Germany we were able to win another important partner in the fight against disposable waste.
We are pleased that the company has opted for our system and is committed to reusable and thus more sustainability in the catering industry," said a spokeswoman.
The start-up company was founded in 2016 and, according to its own statement, is now Germany's largest reusable system for the catering trade.
On its website,
recup
informs that a reusable cup (“recup”) can replace up to 1000 disposable cups, and a reusable bowl (“rebowl”) up to 500 disposable packaging.
The reusable products can now be purchased in various sizes and are completely recyclable - they have been awarded the "Blue Angel" seal by the federal government.
According to a spokeswoman, Ikea wants to become a “circular and climate-positive company” by 2030.
Due to the corona pandemic and the war in Ukraine, the company recently had to contend with delivery bottlenecks - customers felt this immediately.
