Cook noodles sparingly: water bath shortens the cooking time

If you want to save electricity and money when cooking pasta, you have to plan ahead and know the day before that you want to eat a pasta dish.

Then you can simply place the portion of pasta in a pot of salted water overnight.

With a lot of goodwill, the next day the noodles will be like “fresh noodles” again and you only have to heat them for about sixty seconds – done!

But it would be nice if the method didn't have a catch: If you prepare and prepare noodles in this way, they are almost white the next day and the consistency is also slightly different than it would be with conventionally cooked noodles.

It saves money, but does it put you off?

Then try this alternative instead: cooking with residual heat.

Save electricity: cook pasta with residual heat

  • Boil the water in the kettle.

If you have an induction stove, you can also boil the water directly on the stove.

  • Then put the hot water in a saucepan, add the pasta and salt and stir well.

  • Now put the lid on the pot and let it boil again.

  • After boiling, turn off the stove and let the noodles simmer.

  • Depending on the type, the noodles should be al dente after about 15 to 20 minutes, which is just right.

  • This tip works particularly well with pots that hold the heat well, e.g.

    B. Cast iron pots.

It is important that you really only lift the lid again after 15 to 20 minutes so that the heat cannot escape.

So you have to resist the urge to prematurely check the doneness of the pasta.

It might comfort you to know that the noodles can't actually get too soft with the residual heat method, and there is another advantage: the noodles will never overcook with this technique.

By the way: The good old pressure cooker also helps you to save electricity and money in the kitchen.
