An intercontinental meeting of urban looks, this is the sense of the Givenchy spring-summer 2023 collection, designed by the artistic director Matthew M. Williams, which proposes a cultural exchange between the cosmopolitan dress codes of France and the United States, inspired by the influence exerted by Hubert de Givenchy on both stylistic paradigms.

The parade takes place in the Jardin des Plantes, where botanists have been developing discoveries from around the world since the 17th century.

Here a metaphorical graft takes place.

Williams' urban tastes and American trends with those of Givenchy's France, developed from the middle of the last century, harmonize in an ideal of global clothing, shared in the digital age.

Through the timeless gaze of Hubert de Givenchy, whose contribution to American cinema has inspired the perception of the country's everyday elegance, the silhouettes of classic Parisian chic and casual cool of Los Angeles are consolidated.

In this process, Givenchy's archival icons are regenerated in the dialogue with the archetypes of workwear typical of the city wardrobe, revisited thanks to the lens of its savoir-faire.

Center-gathered dresses, skirts and blouses hark back to Givenchy's historic technique, while her iconic black pieces are created with integrated asymmetrical stole panels draped from the neckline.

The bouclé and tweed bouclé jackets evoke archive suits, rethought with the Givenchy 4G logo.

Tailored garments are accentuated at the shoulders and tight at the waist, structured coats with zippers at the front transform into capes, and classic blazers are embellished with boned corsets.

Integral elements of urban uniforms, American workwear and models of the classic military and men's wardrobe - the trench coat, the bomber, the biker jacket, the trucker jacket, the cargo pants and the shorts - are reinterpreted in various sizes, from oversize to mini,

elevated with external decorations and rendered with the tweeds and textures of the codes of the Parisian metropolis.
