About five weeks ago, Malte C. died after a punch on the sidelines of a Christopher Street Day event in Münster.
His funeral is this Tuesday.
The police showed solidarity with the city's queer community.
Münster's police chief Alexandra Dorndorf posted a photo of herself and emergency services on Twitter.
They are holding a rainbow flag.
“We people from Münster stand for open-mindedness, diversity, tolerance and civil courage.
We all need to protect and stand up for these values.
That is also our job as the police.
That's why we work every day," said Dorndorf.
The police followed a call from numerous clubs, parishes, groups and initiatives in an open letter to the Münster city society.
Malte C. was out and about at Christopher Street Day in Münster on August 27th.
The 25-year-old had shown civil courage and opposed a 20-year-old who, among other things, had insulted and threatened women in a queer manner.
The man had punched Malte C. with his fist.
He fell, fell on the back of his head and later died in hospital.
After his funeral on Tuesday, a funeral service is planned at noon at the Lauheide forest cemetery between Münster and Telgte.
The suspect is currently in custody.
