(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 04 OCT - "The Attorney General has pronounced its intention to appeal" against the first degree sentence that acquitted, as it was considered not attributable, Alejandro Augusto Stephan Meran from the murder charge of the two agents Matteo Demenego and Pierluigi Rotta .
"Clearly he will have to request the execution of another appraisal, because at the state of the proceedings the conclusion of the appraisal" filed at first instance "cannot be different. The tragedy is that in these cases it is the expert who decides the fate of the trial".
This was stated by the Chief Prosecutor of Trieste, Antonio De Nicolo, on the sidelines of a mass on the anniversary of the death of the two agents.
The news of the appeal, anticipated today by Il Piccolo, was therefore confirmed by De Nicolo.
As for the timing, he added, the deed must be presented by mid-October, "after which the Court of Assizes of Appeal will probably set a hearing in January".
"If the Court - he observed - will decide to make another expert opinion, we need to see how it will conclude".
In general, it is "a controversial and complex case, in which there was an important expert opinion made in the preliminary hearing phase which concluded in a different manner" compared to that of the first grade.
"It is reasonable to assume that another will be made."
He and again, "psychiatric matter is scientific matter, we cannot not trust the experts".
The pain for the death of the two agents, concluded De Nicolo, "is renewed every day. The wound does not heal for all the servants of the State, whether they belong to the Police, the Carabinieri and the Magistracy. We are all shocked by the thought that two young lives of capable and enthusiastic people of their work have been cut off so prematurely and without a reason in a moment of madness ".
