Supermarkets and discounters such as Rewe, Edeka and Netto are arguing with the US group Mars.
The reason is apparently bitter price wars.
Around 300 products are now on the verge of extinction.
Virginia/Munich – The American food group Mars is threatening supermarkets such as Rewe and Edeka with not delivering any more products to retailers.
This is reported by the
Lebensmittel Zeitung
.
(LZ) The reason given is a bitter price war that did not lead to an agreement, according to the industry journal.
According to the report, the entire Mars range of the group is about to be delivered.
What initially reads like a heated argument between retailers and companies, the consumer in this country has to take the brunt.
It's not just the tasty chocolate bars like Snickers, Twix, Balisto, M&M's, Bounty and Mars that are missing from the shelves of supermarkets and discounters such as Netto.
The popular Ben's Original rice dishes also come from the US group.
The big brands Whiskas, Sheba and Frolic from the pet food segment are also included.
According to LZ
, there are more than 300 articles
from Mars on the German market.
So it's hard to imagine that it would be advantageous for retailers to lose the group as a supplier.
Some of these products could soon disappear from the shelves at Rewe.

Price wars in the markets: delivery stop means empty shelves
Rewe is said to have not officially commented on the embargo so far.
The Edeka Group denounced the "moon prices of Mars" in the advertising brochure.
Edeka has not received any goods from Mars for about three months.
The discounter Netto, which belongs to Edeka, has already shared strongly against the manufacturer on Facebook.
Because customers are angry and complain about empty shelves.
According to the LZ
, it can be heard from Rewe circles
that the warehouses are slowly running out.
In the supermarkets, the gaps in the shelves in various product groups are becoming more and more visible.
It is therefore only a matter of time before consumers in the stores will complain about the lack of a range.
Price war: manufacturer criticizes tough action by retailers
The manufacturer has made statements, but not on specific cases.
Mars confectionery boss Carsten Simon explains at LZ that the manufacturer “urgently needs a second price increase this year” due to cost increases.
Across the entire range of confectionery, this is on average in the high single-digit percentage range.
At the same time, Simon criticized the tough approach taken by German retailers.
Nowhere else are there "such violent clashes".

Again and again such drastic measures are taken that products fly off the retail shelves.
Edeka and Milka were already arguing about delivery conditions at the beginning of this year.
The purple cow was about to be eliminated.
Even branded products like Pepsi and L'Oréal had to believe in Edeka.
Disputes about conditions are usually cited as the reason for this.
