The temperatures haven't really started to drop yet, but there is already a feeling of autumn in the air and this is the signal, the official sign of the opening of the Karambo season in Israel, our ultimate winter treat.

And while at Unilever, the main marketer, there is already talk of raising prices and probably also an expected shortage, we tasted a carambo from another world that quietly made its way here from Denmark last month.

If you ask any proud Dane, he will tell you that the Krambo's country of origin is Denmark, where it is called by the way, flodeboller, which means cream ball.

And although the Danish product, as well as the Israeli one, does not contain cream at all, you can imagine that it got its name thanks to its pleasant texture.

Last year it was the Willy Food company that started importing krambo from Denmark to Israel, but do not confuse the commercial Danish krambo sold in Israel under the name "Tan Bo" with the newcomer, this time it is a different product.

He just looks innocent.

The difference can be noticed already with the first bite and the cracking noise of the thick and high-quality chocolate layer made of dark chocolate from 60 percent cocoa solids from the Kalibo company.

The egg cream inside is exceptionally soft and airy, made from organic eggs, in case you asked, and seasoned with real Madagascar vanilla.

And what about the biscuit?

He doesn't exist at all.

The whole 'caramboi structure' is held by a thick layer of chocolate reinforced with ground cocoa beans, which makes it suitable even for those avoiding gluten.

"Nothing from what I ate in Israel reminded me of the taste of the original. I felt that the Israelis who love carambo so much, do not understand at all what they are missing"

"In Denmark, each chocolatier has its own unique artisanal crembo and in the cafes they are served alongside the coffee like pralines" explains

Jacob Melchior

, who is behind bringing the newcomer to Israel.

Melchior, who immigrated to Israel as a youth from Denmark, never forgot the sweet taste of the Danish delicacy.

"Nothing from what I ate in Israel reminded me of the taste of the original. I felt that the Israelis who love Karambo so much, do not understand at all what they are missing," he explains the dream he always harbored about bringing the ball of cream from his childhood to Israel.

But in Corona, when the whole world stopped and there was a moment of time to think and recalculate a course, it happened - Melchior, no longer a child, but a father himself, decided that dreams should come true.

You can hear the difference at the first bite.

After quite a few tastings of local krambo producers in Denmark and experiments, because it turns out that it is not so easy to import krambo by plane - the air pressure causes them to explode, he started bringing the first Danish gourmet krambo to Israel.

Aerli

, start memorizing, is the name of the Krambo brand that was finally chosen by Melchior and its name means honesty in Danish.

At least eight different flavors of Krambo are produced by Michael Larsen, a Krambo geek and owner, in his small boutique factory that runs on the green energy of the wind.

All of them are made of only high-quality raw materials, taking care to preserve the quality of the environment.

Among Larsen's flavors you will find carambo with coarse salt, carambo with coconut, carambo with a pink filling of strawberry and rhubarb, carambo with marzipan and more.

At the moment, you can find the classic Aerli Karambo in Israel in packages of four units, at a price of NIS 35 per package in delicatessens and marketing chains such as Tiv Taam, Teva Castel and Nitza Havdevan.

In the future, we hope that additional flavors will arrive in Israel and the question of whether to start eating the karambo from the biscuit, may no longer be so relevant.
