When what is probably the world's most important literary prize is awarded, the world looks towards Stockholm for a moment.
The Nobel Prize in Literature goes to a woman.
Stockholm – This year's Nobel Prize in Literature goes to French writer Annie Ernaux.
This was announced by the Swedish Academy, which is responsible for the award, on Thursday in Stockholm.
Annie Ernaux was born in Lillebonne in 1940.
Her books are characterized by a predominantly autobiographical style.
"The Other Girl" and "The Event" (advertising link) were recently published in German.
In the press, she is regarded as one of the most influential voices in contemporary French literature.
