Between July and the end of September he is said to have committed at least five murders: In California, the police are looking for a suspected serial killer.
US investigators released pictures of a man they want to question about the murders in the city of Stockton on Wednesday (local time).
"He definitely fits the definition of a serial killer," Joe Silva of the Stockton Police Department told AFP.
However, one does not know whether there could be several perpetrators – and what motive they followed.
A sixth murder, committed in nearby Oakland last year, is also now under investigation and may be linked to the Stockton cases, media reports said.
In Stockton, police say there are a number of similarities between the cases.
The fatal shots were fired at night or in the early hours of the morning between July 8 and September 27.
The crime scenes are only a few kilometers apart.
Several victims were of Hispanic descent.
A woman who was shot but not killed in Oakland in April was homeless.
Stockton with around 350,000 inhabitants is located south of Sacramento in the US state of California.
It is considered a stronghold of violent crime and hit the headlines ten years ago because it is the largest city
in the USA, which had to file for bankruptcy as a result of the economic crisis.
