A hydraulic balance ensures that the heating works effectively and energy-saving again.

The good thing about it: You save a lot of heating costs.

Some of your radiators only get lukewarm?

This could be due to a poorly adjusted heating system.

Radiators that are further away are then no longer supplied with hot water as well.

To remedy this, you can first try to bleed the radiators.

If it doesn't improve after that, hydraulic balancing can help to resolve the problem.

This even helps to save on heating costs.

Heating: what is hydronic balancing?

Hydraulic balancing ensures that the right amount of water flows through all radiators.

The water always seeks the path of least resistance, which means: the water prefers to flow through short and thick heating pipes instead of through long and thin ones.

Rooms that are further away can be supplied with water more poorly, while excessive water pressure in nearby rooms causes thermostatic valves to work poorly.

Thanks to the hydraulic balance, the heating works more effectively again.

As a result, heat pump heating systems require less electricity, and heating systems with condensing boilers use less oil or gas.

In some cases, however, consumption can also increase because all radiators are now being supplied with heat again.

Who conducts it?

However, a hydraulic adjustment is not for laypeople, it must be carried out by a specialist - for example a heating engineer or energy consultant.

Tenants should inform their landlords if the radiators are not working properly.

How much does hydronic balancing cost?

Depending on the effort and the provider, the costs for hydraulic balancing can vary greatly.

The

consumer

advice center calculates around 400 euros for a single-family house with 10 radiators just for the basic determination and adjustment of the valves, the pump and the heating curve.

With additional costs for a more complex process and pre-adjustable valves, costs of around 1,100 euros and more can arise.

Get an estimate beforehand.

The good news: The Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (BAFA) supports hydraulic balancing with 15 to 20 percent of eligible expenditure.

How much will I save with this?

In the long term, a hydraulic balance can definitely make itself felt in the heating cost calculation.

The consumer advice center expects savings of up to 100 euros a year – even more with heat pumps.

However, this depends heavily on the individual case and is difficult to quantify in general terms.

If you want to save on heating costs, you can also use simple tricks, such as setting the right room temperature or removing furniture in front of radiators.
