The number of crimes committed against minors in Italy in 2021 marks "a disheartening record", exceeding six thousand for the first time: cases were 6,248, 64% against girls and girls and
fueled by sexual violence
. which also records an absolute record with 1,332 cases, of which young people are 88% of the victims.
The data, processed by the Criminal Analysis Service of the Criminal Police Central Directorate, were disclosed by the Terre des Hommes Foundation in a Dossier on the condition of girls and girls in the world 2022 for World Girls' Day of 11 October.
2021, the second year of the pandemic, recorded "a dramatic leap" of 8% of crimes against minors from 2020 when the cases were 5,789 and 89% from 2004 when the cases were 3,311.
In all the sex offenses considered, the prevalence of victims is largely female.
Among these, the cases with the highest percentage of child victims are aggravated sexual violence (increased by 41% in one year) and sexual violence (88% and 87% respectively).

And so - explains the dossier - also for sexual acts with minors (83%) possession of pornographic material (82%) corruption of minors (76%) child prostitution (67%) and for child pornography (69 %).
The data - explains Terre des Hommes - converge with those of the United Nations, according to which one in three women in the world (736 million) has suffered physical or sexual violence at least once in their life by a man, while 15 million girls among 15 and 19 years have undergone sexual intercourse against their will by the partner.
Figures which, according to the World Health Organization, have been practically unchanged for 10 years.
Crimes against minors
are also increasing in the domestic context
, i.e. mistreatment of family members and cohabitants, which in 2021 affected 2,501 young people, 54% of which were female.
The increase from the previous year is limited to 5%, but in 2020 the record was reached with 2,337 cases, while the figure since 2004 has increased by 233%.
