Pieter Paul Rubens returns to Genoa accompanied by Genoese ladies famous for their beauty and wealth for a small-large exhibition in the most beautiful rooms of the Palazzo Ducale.
In fact, from 6 October to 22 January 2023 the residence of the Genoese Doge hosts 'Rubens a Genova'
dedicated to the great Flemish and his relationship with the city.
The exhibition is produced by the Municipality of Genoa with the Palazzo Ducale for Culture Foundation and the Electa publishing house.
The curatorship is by Nils Buttner, lecturer at the Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Kunste Stuttgart and chairman of the Centrum Rubenianum in Antwerp, and by Anna Orlando, Genoese independent scholar co-curator of the exhibition The Age of Rubens held at the Doge's Palace in 2004.
Sixteen sections of the exhibition set up in the rooms of the ducal apartment on the noble floor of the building.
Over 100 works including ten never exhibited in Italy as a self-portrait of young Rubens and the great 'Risen Christ appears to the Mother'.
There are many autograph works by the great Flemish and many works by artists who refer to him such as Cambiaso, Sofonisba Anguissola, Paggi, Castello from some of the main European museums and private collections.
The exhibition, which has already received over 7,000 bookings to date, will close its doors on January 22, 2023.
