It must have been the surprise appearance of the Oktoberfest in Frankfurt am Main: The British superstar Ed Sheeran appeared in the marquee, sang several songs - and drank beer.
Exactly this aspect now has a small aftermath: The beer mug, from which the singer had drunk, was auctioned for 1960 euros.
The Great Council of Frankfurt Carnival Associations was awarded the contract as the highest bidder, said Oktoberfest co-organizer Kai Mann.
The offer on the Ebay platform expired on Friday morning.
The money is to be used to finance the construction of a school in the Dominican Republic via a foundation.
And what should happen to the beer mug?
There is at least one suggestion from the carnivalists that is not meant to be taken seriously: "We'll extract the DNA from the rest of the beer in the beer mug and clone it, and then Ed Sheeran can be with us at the carnival every year," joked the Great Council spokesman Uwe Forstmann.
At the end of September, the British singer came to the neighboring Oktoberfest with his entourage after his concert in the Frankfurt stadium.
During an appearance on stage, in lederhosen and with a beer mug in hand, the 31-year-old sang his ballad "Perfect" and the Backstreet Boys hit "Everybody", among other things.
