Lynsey (Jennifer Lawrence), a military engineer, returns home to New Orleans after a stint in Afghanistan where she suffered a traumatic brain injury.
Having difficulty readjusting to civilian life, she painfully and slowly recovers from her injury.
At the same time, she crosses paths with James (Brian Tyree Henry), a stranger who is also trying to heal from his past.
This new friendship leads them each on the road to recovery.
