Muscles cannot get shorter, but they atrophy.

Especially if you sit all day.

The following seven exercises help to stretch them.

1 / 7Shoulder bridge: Here you lie on your back on the floor.

Bend your legs.

Now raise your pelvis using only the strength of your legs and keep your upper body on the floor.

Pull your chin towards your chest and hold your body tension for a few seconds.

2 / 7Cat Humpback: In this yoga pose you get on all fours.

First, keep your back in a neutral position.

Then inhale and on the exhale form a “hump” with your back.

Pull your navel in towards you and let your head hang relaxed.

3/7Bend Forward: Here you sit up straight, keeping your back straight and looking towards your feet.

Now pull in your belly button and try to lean forward with a straight back until you can't anymore.

4/7Neck Stretch: Sit up straight, hands on knees.

The shoulders point backwards and downwards.

Now gently turn your head to one side.

Take the opposite hand and intensify the stretch.

5 / 7Bend forward: Stand up straight with your feet hip-width apart.

Now open your arms, bring them over your head and come down with a straight back.

Try to touch the ground with your fingers if you can.

6 / 7Armstretching: Sit up straight, cross your legs cross-legged.

Now stretch your arms up over your head and interlace your fingers.

Make sure your palms are facing up and pull yourself up forcefully.

7/7Sumo Squat: In this yoga pose, place your feet wider than hip width.

Slowly lower yourself into a deep squat with your back straight.

Stay there for a while.

If you like, you could clasp your hands in front of your chest or let your arms relax on the floor.

Hours of work in front of the computer, lying on the couch in the evening and bad posture: they are all “ingredients” that cause our muscles to atrophy over time.
