The innkeeper Ali T. had persistently claimed that right-wing extremists had set fire to his restaurant, the »Mangal« in Chemnitz.

But investigators suspect that he did it himself to collect the insurance sum.

T. should now go to prison for ten years for this.

The prosecutor's office demanded this on Monday in the process.

In their plea, the public prosecutor's office spoke out in favor of a conviction, among other things, for jointly attempted murder in 15 cases, as a spokeswoman for the Chemnitz Regional Court announced on Monday.

In addition, 300,000 euros are to be confiscated.

The defense, however, pleaded for acquittal.

The judges want to give their verdict on Tuesday.

In October 2018, the arson attack on the restaurant caused a stir far beyond the city limits because right-wing extremists had repeatedly marauded Chemnitz in the weeks before, and there had also been manhunts.

At the time of the crime, 15 people were in the apartments above the restaurant - they were unharmed.

The Turkish innkeeper had persistently claimed that the perpetrators were to be found among right-wing extremists.

According to the indictment, however, he had commissioned the whole thing himself in order to collect a high sum insured.

The case has been under discussion at the Chemnitz Regional Court since the beginning of February.
