(ANSA) - NEW YORK, OCTOBER 10 - An Italian actress and model is among the five 'Jane Doe' who accuse Harvey Weinstein in Los Angeles.
Eleven charges, including harassment and rape, in the criminal trial that opened on 10 October in the city of the cinema where, until five years ago, the former boss of Miramax had made good and bad weather.
Weinstein, who is 70 years old and in poor health, faces up to 140 years in prison in addition to the 23 for which he was sentenced in 2020 in New York: a condemnation, in fact, to death behind bars.
But for the former producer of films like "Shakespeare in Love" and "The Artist" there is perhaps a glimmer in sight.
Los Angeles judges are notoriously kind to Hollywood celebrities: if this time Weinstein were to get away with it, it would be the worst débacle for the #meToo movement since dozens of women five years ago - including stars such as Angelina Jolie, GwynethPaltrow and Salma Hayek - they came forward to accuse him.
The trial at the Clara Shortridge Criminal Justice Center should last a couple of months with two weeks reserved for the selection of the jury, but the prosecutor has already begun to hear the first witnesses: among these Pascal Vicedomini, founder and organizer of the Los Angeles-Italia festival during which, in February 2013, "Jane Doe 1", the Italian actress and model, was allegedly attacked by Weinstein in a Beverly Hills hotel.
