(ANSA) - BOGOTÁ, OCTOBER 10 - The Colombian government has signed an agreement with the National Federation of Breeders (Fedegan) for the purchase of three million hectares of fertile land to be distributed to farmers without resources or victims in previous years of the civil war.
The agreement, which according to analysts may be the start of an agrarian reform in Colombia, was signed by the president, Gustavo Petro, and by the president of Fedegan, José Felix Lafaurie.
For its part, in a statement, the press office of the presidency informed that the agreement provides that the land that the government buys from farmers "must have all the requisites of private property" and "not be at the center of any ongoing agricultural development or be subjected to to protective measures ".
Commenting on the signing of the agreement with reporters, Petro said: "Three million more hectares for food production.
It will be a Colombian agrarian revolution."
