The SAR value indicates the radiation exposure of mobile phones.

The Federal Office for Radiation Protection has examined which models are particularly dangerous for their users.

Munich ‒ The exposure to radio waves is constantly increasing.

This is mainly due to the fact that more and more technical devices such as smartphones, cell phones and tablets that communicate via this special technology are being used.

In the meantime, the radio wave exposure in schools, private homes, restaurants, in public places and at work is also increasing.

As the German authority, the Federal

Office for Radiation Protection

is responsible for protecting people and the environment from damage caused by radiation and regularly examines the radiation exposure of mobile phones and smartphones.

In her most recent publication, she comes to the conclusion that certain models have particularly high radiation values - the so-called

SAR value

.

The SAR value stands for "

Specific Absorption Rate

".

The SAR value of a mobile phone or tablet indicates

the maximum transmission power that the body can absorb when making a call with this device

.

In order to rule out damage to health from electromagnetic fields, the

level

of energy

consumption should not exceed

two watts per kilogram .

The manufacturers determine the SAR value of a device according to European measurement standards and state the result in the operating instructions for their mobile phone models.

The SAR values of many current models can be viewed at

the

Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) .

Some of them emit just below the recommended maximum limit.

Mobile phone radiation: how to classify the result

Mobile phone users absorb part of the energy from high-frequency electromagnetic fields in their heads - when they are on the phone in their ears.

However, if you carry your mobile phone in your trouser or shirt pocket and use a headset to make calls, you absorb this energy with the part of your body near which the mobile phone is located.

All over the world, people make calls with their cell phones to their ears.

Mobile phone manufacturers try to keep the transmission power as low as possible to save energy.

A maximum is only reached when there is poor reception, reports

Computerbild

.

For example in heavily shielded interiors or when the transmission masts are far away.

This means that mobile phones with good reception emit less.

The BfS therefore recommends always using the landline telephone if there is a choice between landline and cell phone.

Cell phones should only be used for short calls.

Users should also not make calls when reception is poor.

If you can, you should use a headset.

Minimizing radiation exposure for children is particularly important.

The BfS therefore recommends restricting cell phone calls among children as much as possible.

The BfS not only examines the radiation from mobile phones, but also warns of radioactive fungi in forests.

In southern Germany in particular, some types of fungus apparently have greatly increased values.
