"The new context strongly highlights the importance of EU enlargement as it takes on a new geopolitical meaning with great implications for the region: the decisions of the partners to stay with us or not on the world stage and on fundamental values take on weight even greater ".
This was stated by the high representative of EU foreign policy Josep Borrell, interviewed by ANSA, commenting on the Commission's recommendation to grant candidate status to Bosnia.
"With Moscow - he underlines - there is also a struggle of ideas. We cannot close our eyes to its growing influence, not only in the Balkans".
"Today's choice is a political impulse. Certainly Bosnia today does not meet all the conditions for being an EU country but we believe that these conditions will be fulfilled. It is an impulse that I hope Bosnia's new political authorities will understand and exploit. It is a spur to action, "says Borrell.
"I hope that the new Italian government, as regards the issues of security and support for Ukraine, will maintain the same position as the previous one, it is very important that this happens", says the high representative of EU foreign policy.
"My task is not to deal with the internal political dynamics of the member states but it is clear that this dynamic has an impact on our external projection: the foreign policy of the European Union depends on our internal cohesion and our unity", explains Borrell .
