The Hamburg public prosecutor's office has brought charges against Michael Osterburg, the long-time leader of the Greens faction in the Hamburg-Mitte district assembly.

He is accused of commercial infidelity.

In some cases, fraud and falsification of documents are said to have occurred.

There are 121 cases in total.

Between 2015 and 2019, Osterburg is said to have used group funds for private purposes “on a large scale”.

The amounts of almost 34,500 euros are therefore, among other things, about hospitality, for which he is said to have untruthfully given faction-related occasions.

Among them were apparently also restaurant visits with his partner at the time.

In addition, he allegedly had childcare costs and privately purchased commodities paid for.

"In addition, according to the investigation, the accused made various account debits in his favor and had travel and rental car costs reimbursed by the parliamentary group for no reason," the prosecutor said.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the indictment at the Hamburg district court is based "on the special scope of the matter".

According to the prosecution, Osterburg has not yet commented on the allegations.

It was therefore said that 162 witnesses and 347 documents were named to provide evidence.

Osterburg is the former partner of Hamburg's Justice Senator Anna Gallina.

They have a daughter together and have been separated since autumn 2019.

Last April, the new parliamentary group leadership filed a criminal complaint.

According to her own statements, she encountered "irregularities" in the books.
